- I'm experiencing strange behavior with my with my internal courier
- v.everything modem under windows 95. I'd like to know if this is
- something that you're familiar with and have a solution for.
-
- The problem:
-
- Every morning when I attempt to read my e-mail, the win 95
- dial-up-networking utility complains that there is no response from
- the modem. Then, the only way that I can reach the modem is to
- reinstall it in software and in hardware. Then it works fine. BUT..
- if I power down for any length of time, when I start up win95 again,
- the modem will not respond. I am able to hard-reboot and soft reboot,
- and restart to dos mode and return to windows without losing the
- modem. It seems to be related only to the length of time that I'm
- powered down.
-
- There are no resource conflicts. I have updated the modem flash ROM
- with the latest release, but it didn't help. Also I have used the
- latest .inf file for the modem, but it too made no difference.
-
- My PC:
-
- P-133, 16 MB EDO, Tyan Titan III mainboard w/2 integrated serial ports
- - serial mouse on COM1, COM2 disabled. USR Courier v.everything
- internal set to COM2 IRQ3. ATI mach64 based video.
-
- When I boot up, the mainboard banner appears and indicates that serial
- port 2 is at address 2f8, which is correct. With the modem card
- removed, serial port 2 is absent from the banner, so I believe the
- motherboard is successfully disabling its integrated serial port 2.
- Therefore, I think the problem is either with win 95 or with the
- modem.
-
- any help would be greatly appreciated,
-
